So Tired

Well, my lifestyle finally caught up with me. Monday I had my first serios MS attack. I have three new lesions, and they caused huge equlibrium problems, which led to violent vomiting. I was taken to the hospital via ambulance, and then admitted- and not given a choice about either action. They gave me IV Steriods, and I pretty much slept the entire time. I got out yesterday and have pretty much been asleep since. I came to Anatomy class today- finals are in a week and I can't fall any further behind- but I am sitting trying so hard not to fall asleep. I feel tired and feverish and yucky. My arm hurts from the IV and I still can't feel anything below my waist. I think this is the first where my MS has suddenly become very real to me. Before it was just this thing that made me a little tingly, now I realise- I can get very sick.

I hate nights

It's not that I hate night time really, but that working nights has completly screwed with my sleeping schedule. The All-nighters for my thesis haven't helped at all either. I'm so used to staying awake until midnight or 1am, that trying to fall asleep any earlier- even when I have the luxery to do so- is impossible.
Thursday night I pulled a second all nighter in a row to finish my Primate paper due Friday (I put it off for my thesis- that was a mistake!). Friday I went to my classes, was home by 2pm and passed out. I slept until 7, woke up, watched the hockey game, ate dinner and then was back in bed by 9pm. I had been falling asleep in front of the TV, but after crawling I talked to my Dad, and when we hung up I was AWAKE. I knew I had to be up at 5am the next morning to be at work by 7am, so I lay there. For 2 hours. I gave up and finally read, turnig out my light at 2am. I didn't fall asleep until 3. Let me tell you- the 16 hour shift I had to work Saturday REALLY sucked on so little sleep.
And all because my body is used to being awake at that time.

New Work

Well I talked with professor Strait today (the Anthro Bio specialist) and we set out my honors project for next semester. While I am STILL stressing the history one I haven't finished this semester, I feel happy thinking about something new. What is so exciting is that it really is something that has never been done- unlike my history paper which tried to delve into an unknown area but wasn't able to.
There is a new work out defining ancient humans into "morphs". I am going to make a table of these (which hasn't been done) and then try and see if these morphs are TRUELY a defining and thus seperating the species. It will be tedious, but actually probabley really interesting!

MS Walk

On May 6th I am setting up a team- FeelBetter Friends to do the MS Walk. Registration starts at 9am and the walk starts at 10am.
By joining my team, you will be signing up not just for a day of fun, but also for a celebration of the great things we can achieve when working together for a common cause. Each step we take brings us one step closer to a cure - and closer to a world without multiple sclerosis. So what are you waiting for? Join my team today or make a donation on my behalf.
Every hour of every day, someone is diagnosed with MS. That's why I registered for the MS Walk and that's why I'm asking you to support my fund raising efforts with a tax-deductible donation.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is dedicated to ending the devastating effects of MS but they can't do it without our help. It's faster and easier than ever to support this cause that's so important to me. Simply click on the link at the bottom of this message. If you prefer, you can send your contribution to the address listed below.
Any amount, great or small, helps to make a difference in the lives of people with MS. I appreciate your support and look forward to letting you know how I do.
P.S. If you would like more information about the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, how proceeds from the MS Walk are used, or the other ways you can get involved in the fight against MS, please visit nationalmssociety.org.

Reprieve

So the last couple nights I haven't slept. Well I guess you could say I have. Each time I took an about an hour or so nap before heading out for my day. For a change it is not because I am working 60,000 hours. I was attempting to finish the final draft of my thesis, which was due today. I managed to write a total of 37 pages- about half of what I need, but it is well written. ALthough I have to back up some arguments I've made, and go back to my sources for some information, it's a decent peice.
Well Today I went to hand it in, and my professor told me that he doesn't want it until the 20th. YAY That gives me 10 more days to polish it.... nad maybe take a nap while I at it.

Adjustment

I LOVE to sleep. There is nothing in this world I cherish then my bed. Cuddling up with the kitties (or another warm body if I have one) under the warmth is heaven. Especially if I have a book in hand. I have had so little sleep recently, but I still cherish what I do get.
But what I am surprised about is how easy it has been to adjust my sleep schedule. It used to be that I got up at 6am, had work and school and then slept by 10. Now, I get up at 8, and school and work until midnight. Much longer day. And I have been picking up overnight shifts. For someone who used to get up at 6am, working from 3pm to 7am that's quite the opposite of what I was used to. I am surprised how non-tired I was by the end of the shift.
Well, I guess you can get used to anything.

It's Official. I'm a Masocist. Or is it a Sadist? I'm not sure any more. I don't even think I am sure who i am anymore. Or where I am. Or what day it is. It IS Sunday right???? In three hours I will officially have had 4 hours sleep in 48 hours. Of course, they were not CONSECUTIVE hours. Oh no. I have three more hours of work to go, and then only 8 hours (yes eight) before I have to come back and work another 8 hour shift. So.... I can look forward to around 6 1/2 to 7 hours of sleep. Add that to the four I had earlier and..... 11 hours sleep in 68 hours.

Yup.... I'm a Sadist.
